Forty-one years I gave that company. Forty-one years. And on my last day they gave me a card, a bottle of wine, and that was it. I went home and just sat in the kitchen for about an hour. To be honest, I think I've hit bottom these past few months. My wife says I'm being dramatic, but she doesn't understand — when you work that long, the job is who you are. Without it, you're nobody. I was really when I tried to join the local bowls club and the chap there made me feel like I was intruding on something. And now my son's told me he and his family are moving to Australia next spring. When he said it, I had this awful sinking in my stomach. I smiled, I said all the right things, but inside I was crushed. That's three grandchildren I'll see grow up.
